Our Missions Ministry is of great importance here at First Baptist Church. We provide several opportunities for the men, women, students and children of the church to experience missions' service and missions' education.
Some of those opportunities are trips (local, national and international), disaster service, giving (local, state, national, and international), education, and our local food pantry.
Many of our folks also serve as state volunteers for disaster service. We financially support the SBC Cooperative Program and our local Association of Baptists (Greater Dayton Association of Baptists), as well as Rick & Donna Martin (South American Missionaries based in Peru), Caleb & Michelle Chamberlain (NAMB Campus Missionaires at WSU), Joshua & Kari Ortega (Reliant Church Plant Missionaries, H2O at WSU), Bridges of Hope (homeless shelter), and Safe Harbor House (at-risk women's shelter). We also hold special offerings each year for our State Mission Offering (Ray Roberts), our North American Mission Offering (Annie Armstrong) and finally our International Missions Offering (Lottie Moon).
Our church is one of the top five churches in our Association and State that give to these mission offerings. We provide mission training in our Children's AWANA group, Sunday evenings from 5-7pm (during the school year) and more specific Southern Baptist mission training in our Royal Ambassador and Girls in Action (what we call RAGA) group, Wednesdays 6-7pm (during the school year). Our students are very active in missions as well, spending time to go on a mission trip every year.
We are also very active in our local and associational (Arthur Avenue Mission Center) food pantries and we specifically house our local food pantry, called FISH. We sponsor teams for international missions trips, and we are very proud to be a sending church for our previous Minister of Students and his family through the International Mission Board (IMB).
